We’re delighted to welcome Stephen Walsh to Carr Golf as USA Ambassador. Based stateside in the New York area, Stephen will be connecting with clients old and new to plan 2022 golf experiences of a lifetime in Ireland, Scotland and England.
The town of St. Andrews in the Fife region of Scotland has many beautiful links courses. The hallowed Old Course at St. Andrews, the home of golf, will always be the star attraction, although Kingsbarns now ranks highly with clients, alongside nearby Carnoustie and Gleneagles PGA Centenary. However, there’s a new kid on the block, and its only 9 miles outside of town.
The Island Golf Club has been given a new lease of life ahead of the 2021 season. Founded in 1890, located just 30 minutes’ drive from Dublin city centre and famed for its dramatic natural dunes, The Island Golf Club completed its front-9 upgrade in 2020. Previously with an unusual front 9 set up with eight Par 4s in a row, back in 2010 Hawtree Design built a Par 3 at the 4th which for a while became an unofficial 19th hole, occasionally brought into play during winter months.
The golfing gods have always looked down favourably on County Donegal in Ireland’s dramatic North West. Anyone who’s golfed in the region will have experienced the majestic family-owned 36-hole resort at Rosapenna. Now there’s a new kid on the block, St. Patrick’s Links opens for business in Summer 2021.

Social restrictions in 2021 will lead to more tailored trips, and with scarcity of tee times in 2022, you must book early to play the trophy courses. Though also opportunities to experience lesser known, though no less beautiful links golf courses in North West Ireland and the Scottish Highlands.
Ireland has long been a pilgrimage destination for golfers seeking world-famous Links experiences. ‘Trophy Courses’ in the South, East and North of the island are well known. First-time visitors migrate to Walker Cup, Irish Open and Open Championship venues. Serial ‘Trophy Hunters’ seek out Top 100 ranked bucket-list courses. Ireland can lay claim to five Links in the world’s top 20 courses, with Royal County Down in top spot. Many have fallen in love.

This week the US Masters will be played for the first time in November. As the golfing world prepares for a very different tournament this year, we wanted to share with you the story of JB Carr’s invitation to play in the Masters and his three consecutive appearances in 1967, 1968 and 1969.
