Southwest Ireland is one of Ireland’s strongest golf regions, bringing together Ballybunion, Lahinch, Waterville, Tralee, Old Head and other leading courses. The concentration of courses makes it particularly well suited to a dedicated golf trip, with an itinerary planned around your priority courses, preferred pace and travel dates.
Around seven days works well for a focused Southwest Ireland golf trip. It gives you time to play several of the region’s leading courses without trying to fit too much into each day. Our sample seven-day itinerary combines Ballybunion, Waterville, Tralee, Old Head, Doonbeg and Lahinch.
Ballybunion Old Course, Lahinch Old Course, Waterville Golf Links, Tralee Golf Club, Old Head Golf Links, Dooks Golf Links and Doonbeg are among the region’s best-known courses. Adare Manor can also be incorporated into a Southwest journey. The right combination depends on your group’s priorities, dates and course availability.
Your accommodation should follow your golf itinerary rather than the other way around. Killarney is a particularly useful base for several Southwest courses, while other parts of the journey may be better served by staying closer to the courses being played. We plan accommodation and transport together to keep unnecessary travel between rounds to a minimum.
If courses such as Ballybunion, Lahinch, Waterville or Old Head are priorities, it pays to start planning well in advance. Availability varies by course and travel date, so we recommend identifying your must-play courses early. We can then build the wider itinerary around those priorities.
