Fidra Links at Archerfield is a modern David J Russell design in East Lothian, where rolling fairways run through Scots pines before the course opens into a more traditional links closing stretch with views towards Fidra.
Opened in 2004, Fidra Links is David J Russell’s modern East Lothian layout at Archerfield, set between Dirleton and North Berwick. The course begins through rolling ground framed by dense corridors of Scots pines, a feature that gives the opening and middle holes a very different character from many nearby links. Coastal views towards Fidra provide a constant point of reference, but the design saves a more open links feel for the closing stretch, where the course broadens and the terrain becomes more exposed.Â
At 6,942 yards and playing to par 72, it is a substantial test that blends inland structure with seaside movement rather than relying on one note throughout. That contrast is what defines Fidra Links: pine-lined strategy early on, then a stronger links finish as the round turns towards home. It is a contemporary course with a distinctly East Lothian setting within Archerfield’s private coastal estate today.
