Gullane No.1 is East Lothian championship golf at full stretch: a links that rises over Gullane Hill, moves through a noted cliff-top stretch and returns with a tournament record spanning the Scottish Open, Ladies Scottish Open and Open Final Qualifying.
Opened in 1884, Gullane No.1 is the principal course at Gullane Golf Club and one of East Lothian’s established championship links. The routing climbs steadily over Gullane Hill, where the exposed ground and broad outlook give the round its early identity, before turning towards a more coastal finish beside the Firth of Forth. That shift in terrain is central to the course’s appeal: uphill holes that demand control, then a cliff-top stretch where position and judgement become more exacting.
At 6,583 yards and playing to par 71, it has the scale and record of a proven tournament venue rather than a scenic companion. The Scottish Open, Ladies Scottish Open and Final Qualifying for The Open all sit on its hosting record, underlining its standing in championship golf. For a wider East Lothian itinerary, Gullane No.1 also places you within easy reach of Muirfield, Gullane No.2 and North Berwick.
