Set above Bass Strait near Bridport, Barnbougle Dunes is a Tom Doak design that helped redefine Australian links golf, pairing expansive coastal ground with firm surfaces, broad strategy and national standing.
Opened in 2004, Barnbougle Dunes brought a different scale and style of links golf to Australia. Tom Doak’s design sits on the north coast of Tasmania near Bridport, using rumpled ground, natural sandy contours and constant exposure to Bass Strait rather than heavy shaping.
The course measures 6,732 yards as a par 71 and is defined by firm conditions, generous width and angles that reward clear thinking as much as execution. Holes move close to the shoreline before turning inland through broken duneland, giving the round an easy rhythm and a strong sense of place. Its reputation rests not on ornament but on how naturally the routing settles into the property and how varied the questions remain in different winds. Barnbougle Dunes quickly established itself among Australia’s leading courses and remains the anchor of a stay-and-play visit on Tasmania’s north coast for golfers.
