Ardglass Golf Course sits on a narrow stretch of coastline in County Down, where fairways run close to the cliffs and the Irish Sea remains in constant view. Established in 1896, the course is defined by its compact routing and proximity to the shoreline, with several holes playing directly alongside steep drops to the water.Â
The layout demands control rather than power, with shifting winds influencing club selection throughout. Its setting gives the course a distinctive rhythm, moving quickly between inland turns and exposed cliff-top stretches. The historic clubhouse, built within a former castle structure, adds to the sense of place and continuity. Ardglass offers a more intimate links experience than many of its neighbours, yet retains a strong coastal identity. It is a course shaped as much by its position above the sea as by its traditional design.
