Castlerock’s Mussenden Course is one of the most authentic links experiences on the Causeway Coast, shaped by its natural dune setting and understated design. Opened in 1901 by Ben Sayers, the course follows a traditional out-and-back routing that makes full use of the prevailing winds.
The opening holes ease players into the round before the layout begins to tighten, with fairways running through narrow dune corridors and subtle elevation changes. Unlike more dramatic neighbours, Mussenden relies on restraint and positioning, asking for thoughtful shot selection rather than power. The inward nine provides the sternest examination, with a sequence of holes that demand control into well-guarded greens. Its closing stretch is particularly noted for its challenge, often playing into the wind.
