Founded in 1851 by Old Tom Morris, Prestwick Golf Club is the birthplace of The Open Championship. Its blind lines, unusual routing and the Himalayas putting green give this Ayrshire links a character all its own.
Prestwick Golf Club occupies a singular place in the game. Founded in 1851, it was laid out by Old Tom Morris and became the original home of The Open Championship, giving the course a status few venues can match. Yet Prestwick is memorable not simply for history, but for how it plays. The routing asks for imagination and acceptance in equal measure, with blind drives, angled approaches and unconventional features that feel rooted in an earlier era of links golf. The Himalayas putting green adds to that character, while the rumpled ground and traditional presentation keep the course unmistakably authentic.Â
At 6,908 yards, it is a substantial test, but one defined less by brute length than by position, nerve and local knowledge. On the Ayrshire coast, close to Royal Troon and Western Gailes, Prestwick remains a course of grand influence and unapologetically individual golfing character for purists everywhere.
