La Reserva Club Sotogrande brings a modern counterpoint to the established courses of this corner of Andalusia. Opened in 2003, Cabell B. Robinson’s design uses width and scale to create a different sort of test from its nearby neighbours, with generous fairways, expansive greens and a layout that rewards confident placement into the right sections of the putting surfaces.Â
The course sits above Sotogrande with long views that give the round an open, spacious character, yet its championship framework keeps the challenge clear from the back tees. At 6,740 yards and playing to a par of 72, it is substantial without feeling heavy-handed. Its large green complexes shape much of the strategy. La Reserva fits naturally into a Sotogrande itinerary for golfers who want contrast as well as pedigree: a contemporary parkland course, resort in feel, but tournament in presentation, and a strong complement to Valderrama, Sotogrande and San Roque.
