Real Club de Golf Sotogrande opened in 1964 and immediately set a benchmark for modern Spanish golf. Robert Trent Jones Sr. shaped the course as a strategic par-72 test, where bunkering, angles and elevated greens place a premium on precise positioning rather than brute force. At 6,599 yards, it is not overpowering on the card, yet its tree-lined fairways and exacting approach demands give the round a distinctly thoughtful rhythm.Â
The course holds an important place in Andalusian golf history and has hosted the Spanish Open, underlining its standing within the region. More broadly, it helped define Sotogrande as a serious golf destination, establishing a model that later courses in the area would follow.
