Set above the Aberdeenshire coast, Cruden Bay’s Championship Course is an old-world links by Old Tom Morris and Archie Simpson, celebrated for rumpled fairways, hidden lines, and Golf Digest world top-100 standing.
Cruden Bay’s Championship Course opens on the present site in 1899 and remains one of the game’s most individual links experiences. Attributed to Old Tom Morris and Archie Simpson, it sits on the Aberdeenshire coast where natural folds, punchbowl greens and shifting dunes create a round built on curiosity as much as control. This is not links golf reduced to straight lines and open targets. Blind approaches, diagonal carries and uneven stances ask you to commit to the shot and trust the ground beneath it. That old-fashioned character is precisely its appeal.Â
At 6,615 yards and playing to par 70, the course is not overpowered by length, but sharpened by angles, contour and constant change in tempo. Golf Digest ranked it No. 21 in its 2024–2025 world list, confirming what keen links players already know: Cruden Bay offers a rare, deeply memorable day’s golf.
