Founded in 1890, The Island Golf Club occupies a striking piece of linksland just north of Dublin, where the course sits almost entirely surrounded by water. Early input from Old Tom Morris established its foundations, with later work by Eddie Hackett and more recent refinement by Martin Ebert shaping the course seen today.Â
The routing moves through tall, rugged dunes, with elevated tees revealing narrow fairways and subtly contoured greens. Despite its proximity to Dublin Airport, the setting feels notably removed, with little beyond sand, sea and sky. The course has long been trusted with championship golf, hosting Amateur Championship events and serving as a venue for Open Championship Final Qualifying. Its challenge lies in positioning and control rather than length alone, with wind and firm ground dictating play. It remains a distinctive and quietly exacting test among Ireland’s east coast links.
