Brittas Bay opened in 1993 as the creation of Pat Ruddy, originally known as The European Club, and has since been extensively reworked by Kyle Phillips. The redesign shifts the feel of the course noticeably, opening up playing corridors and softening the presentation to create a more natural, flowing links. Set on a broad stretch of Wicklow coastline, the land is less about towering dunes and more about subtle movement, native grasses and space.Â
At 7,175 yards and a par of 70, it asks for control rather than brute force, particularly when the Irish Sea wind rises, which it often does. Phillips has introduced greater width and options off the tee, allowing different routes into greens and a more strategic rhythm throughout the round. It now plays as a modern Irish links with a calmer, more expansive character, distinct from its earlier identity.
