The third championship course at St Andrews Links, the Jubilee plays beside the West Sands and offers a more exacting test than many of its neighbours. Opened in 1897 and later redesigned by Donald Steel, it combines classic links ground with a firmer championship edge.
The Jubilee Course is the most exacting of the championship layouts at St Andrews Links, playing hard by the West Sands with little shelter from the elements.
Opened in 1897, it began as a course for ladies and beginners before evolving into a stern modern test. Donald Steel’s redesign sharpened its championship character, bringing tighter definition and a more exacting examination than many visitors expect at St Andrews. Fairways sit close to the shoreline, where wind becomes a constant factor and recovery shots demand control rather than force. The course has a leaner, tougher feel than the neighbouring Old and New, rewarding precise placement and a clear strategy from the tee. For golfers who want to see another side of St Andrews, the Jubilee offers championship golf with a distinctly grittier edge, grounded in the same coastal landscape that defines links golf in Fife to this day for serious players alike.
