Sandy Hills Links at Rosapenna opened in 2003, designed by Pat Ruddy and Frank Casey Sr. on a vast stretch of dune land overlooking the Atlantic in County Donegal. From the outset, the intention was to create a course that embraced the natural scale of the terrain, and that sense of space is felt on every hole.Â
The fairways climb and fall through high ridges and sheltered valleys, with blind and semi-blind shots adding to the experience rather than detracting from it. At over 7,200 yards, it is a demanding walk, but one that rewards thoughtful positioning as much as power. The wind is rarely absent and often decisive, particularly on the more exposed holes. As part of Rosapenna’s trio, Sandy Hills sits comfortably between the heritage of the Old Tom Morris Links and the modern refinement of St Patrick’s Links.
