Brora Golf Club sits on the East Sutherland coast and delivers a classic Highland links experience shaped by James Braid. Opened in 1891, it is known for its preserved character, natural golfing ground and enduring reputation as one of the club’s most prized Braid courses.
Opened in 2012, the Old Course at Trump International Scotland is Dr Martin Hawtree’s modern interpretation of a championship Scottish links, laid out through the Great Dunes at Balmedie. The setting gives the course its identity: expansive sandhills, broad natural movement and constant exposure to the North Sea. At 7,452 yards and playing to par 72, it is built on a scale that asks for committed strategy as much as length, with wide corridors framed by rugged dune forms rather than softness.Â
The course has already developed tournament standing through the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, underlining its championship credentials. Yet its appeal is not only in yardage or difficulty. The routing uses the dune system to create variety, rhythm and a strong sense of place from hole to hole. For golfers travelling the Aberdeenshire coast, it brings a distinctly modern counterpoint to the region’s older links traditions and championship heritage.
