Opened in 1969, it was designed by Frank Pennink and shaped as a traditional parkland course rather than a modern resort layout. The routing moves through dense umbrella pines, giving the course a distinct rhythm and a strong sense of enclosure from tee to green.Â
At 6,840 yards and playing to a par of 73, it asks for accuracy as much as length, with tree-lined holes placing a premium on position and shape. Its standing rests on longevity and design clarity rather than spectacle, which is exactly why it continues to appeal. For golfers staying in Vilamoura, it offers a round with heritage and character in an area better known for choice than continuity. Soft spikes are compulsory, and a valid handicap certificate is required.
