Ballyliffin’s Old Links, opened in 1973 and designed by Eddie Hackett, is the original course at one of Ireland’s most northerly golf clubs. Set across gently rolling ground, it reflects Hackett’s instinct for routing courses that feel entirely at home in the landscape. In later years, Nick Faldo contributed refinements that subtly strengthened the layout while respecting its character.Â
Playing to a par of 71 at 6,937 yards, the course rewards control and awareness, particularly when Atlantic winds move across the exposed terrain. There is a quiet rhythm to the Old Links, with each hole flowing naturally into the next rather than relying on dramatic features. Its championship credentials include hosting the Irish Seniors Open, underlining its quality as a competitive test. Alongside the Glashedy Links, it offers a balanced and complete Ballyliffin experience grounded in tradition.
