Opened in 1975, Palmares is a long-established Algarve course with a distinctive 27-hole layout near Lagos. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., it combines links-style golf with the region’s coastal terrain, creating a round shaped by open views, shifting light and holes that move naturally through dune ground. At 6,569 yards and playing to a par of 72, the course offers a balanced test that relies less on brute force and more on positioning and control. The setting is one of its defining strengths, with ocean outlooks present throughout the property and several holes framed by sandy landforms that give the course its character. Palmares works particularly well for travelling golfers who want variety within a resort setting, as the 27-hole format adds flexibility to the experience. It is a strong option in the western Algarve for players seeking coastal golf with an established design pedigree and relaxed resort access.
