Home to seven generations of the O'Hara family since it was built in 1774, Coopershill House is a fine example of a Georgian family mansion and combines the elegance and spaciousness of an earlier era with the comfort and amenities of today. Situated on a large estate, separation from the outside world appears complete, while peacocks can be found strutting proudly about the lawns. Wholesome food, candlelit dinners, a wide choice of wines, open log fires and excellent service all conspire to create the atmosphere and hospitality that is special to Coopershill.
All the bedrooms at Coopershill retain their original regal dimensions and are furnished in keeping with the period of the house. Each room has their own private bathroom, while the four-poster bedrooms are quite something to behold. Some of the fascinating features that remain include an unusual Victorian freestanding roll-top bath, complete with fully integrated cast iron shower cubicle.
Aside from the world-class golf courses of Bundoran, Rosses Point, Enniscrone and Donegal, there is plenty to occupy the visitor in the area. Excellent examples of passage graves, portal dolmens, wedge-shaped tombs, hill forts, medieval churches and castles exist in the area, while one can also visit the grave of the famous Irish poet, William Butler Yeats, who is buried in Drumcliffe Churchyard in the shadow of the great Benbulbin Mountain. And for those who fancy exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside, the numerous forest parks are well worth a visit.
