golfing_in_ireland.jpgIreland is one of the top golf destinations in the world where even the most experienced golfer will enjoy the diversity, beauty and heritage of Ireland’s courses. Golfers will always travel to the best destinations and in this respect Ireland is a haven, being home to almost 40% of the world's links courses and some of the oldest established parkland courses globally. Boasting over 400 courses, there is more golf per capita than in any other country. For the Irish, golf is simply a way of life!

The West & SouthWest
Fly into Shannon to experience Lahinch and Doonbeg… travel to Ireland’s stunning Southwest where you’ll find Waterville, Ballybunion – Tom Watsons favourite haunt and one of Arnold Palmer’s hidden gems Tralee. From here make your way to the Old Head of Kinsale – co-designed by Carr Golf Travel founder Joe Carr – which offers one a visually dramatic vista that is unique to Irish golf.

The East
Alternatively, fly into Dublin where you will find Portmarnock Golf Club, The K Club, The Island, Baltray - host venue of The 2009 Irish Open and Pat Ruddy’s European Club. It’s only a two hour drive from the Capital to one of the great courses of the world Royal County Down. Frequently Ranked as one of the world’s Top 10 layouts Royal County Down is definitely worth a visit as is Portstewart, Castlerock and of course Royal Portrush – the only course in Ireland to have hosted the British Open and the venue where Joe Carr won the British Amateur Championship in 1960.

The NorthWest
Or for a selection of hidden gems why not golf the Northwest where you’ll discover spectacular links such as Enniscrone and Rosses Point in Sligo and Murvagh and Ballyliffin's Old Course further north in beautiful Donegal.

Old Head of Kinsale:

The Old Head will in my estimation rate with the great golf courses of the world. Its location, its scenic reality and spectacular terrain remind me of Cypress Point and Pebble Beach. I see Old Head as a golfer's paradise and it has the potential of being the eighth wonder of the world, in golfing terms.
